French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille failed to sign Ghana striker Jordan Ayew after Aston Villa rejected their £11 million offer on transfer deadline day.

Marseille were keen on bringing their former striker back to the Stade Velodrome but Aston Villa refused to let him go.

Villa owner, Dr Tony Xia had already stated on Twitter that Ayew would not be allowed to leave because he is crucial to their hopes of returning to the English Premier League at a canter.

Jordan emerged as the top scorer for Aston Villa with 7 goals in last season’s English Premier League.
