Asante Kotoko now insists on medicals before signing players

Unlike in the past when Kumasi Asante Kotoko would splash huge sums on players before signing them, the club has now adopted a policy of demanding that potential players undergo medical tests before signing.

Physiotherapist, Jerry Netwon Pratt has told Asantekotokosc.com that, medical tests undertaken by Kotoko before players are signed are to principally give them a point of reference for all health issues in the club.

He said, it was imperative that such tests are done before the season takes off. Newton, who has supervised all Kotoko medical tests ahead of the 2016/17 season, explained that, the process was purely in the interest of the players and the club at large.

“This procedure is to benefit of the individual players. The club also benefits. In the end you want to be sure that everyone is well and this is to help us have or keep some amount of information on everyone we will be working with so we can also trace, refer or identify development that comes well” said Newton.

The Physiotherapist made these pronouncements after he supervised the medical tests of Awudu Nafiu, Yakubu Mohammed and Abass Mohammed on Tuesday. The process went on smoothly for the trio at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi. Newton Pratt was ably assisted by his deputy, Cosmos Appiah.

Various tests were undertaken on the players’ strength and endurance, speed among others. Their blood samples were as well taken. Other aspects of the examination focused on their internal organs. In addition, the tests were to identify hidden injuries. The medical team is expected to offer possible treatment or advice to Management before the players are signed.
