Former Black Stars goalkeeper, Abubakari Damba has indicated that the Black Stars will suffer from Baba Rahman’s injury in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

Baba’s tournament was brought to a premature end after he was ruled out of the competition by injury. A scan report on the player’s left knee confirmed a rupture of his anterior cruciate ligament and Meniscus, forcing the Ghana Football Association to fly him to Germany to seek further medical care at his club, Schalke 04.

In reaction to the effect of the player’s injury on the Black Stars, Damba told Happy FM’s Anopa Bosuo sports,

“Obviously, it’s a massive blow to the team.”

“It’s very painful to lose such a player at this crucial moment when we don’t have adequate cover. It’ll affect the team greatly because there’s no serious competition for Baba on that position, therefore I think we’ll suffer on that side.”

“Frank Acheampong came on against Uganda but his performance at left back showed that he wasn’t cut out for the position. So, I believe the only option Avram Grant now has is to push Afful to the left back position and Amartey to the right, and use Jonathan Mensah and John Boye in the centre.”

The Black Stars will lock horns with the Eagles of Mali in the second game of Group D on Saturday at the Stade Port Gentil.
